Free HTML5 Template – Shades of Grey

Shades of Grey – HTML5 Template

Here`s the latest free html5 / css3 template for you to download.

I was bored this evening and thinking to myself ive not created any free templates for a few months, so I created this theme which I have called: Shades of Grey.

Yes, it was inspired by that book, which ive not read and have no intention too neither. I went for a minimalistic feel for the theme using different shades of grey, hopefully that will allow you to re-style the theme to suit your own needs. I have also marked out each of sections with web designer notes in the html and css so you can find your way around the coding much easier.

Features:

Fully HTML5 validated
Fully CSS3 validated
Google Fonts – Kite One

Feel free to download and use however you like. If you do decide to use this template for one of your own projects, could you please leave an anchor link of www.sitebee.co.uk somewhere within your website?

Plogger – How to embed Album Collection into Webpage

Ive been working on a gallery for one of my freelance clients today using the open source gallery script called Plogger, I have been trying to figure out how to embed a single album into a static php webpage.  Unfortunately the Plogger support forums do not have a great amount of information on how to embed a collection into a webpage.

I eventually figured it out and I will share how I managed to do it with you all so it will save you time trying to search through the Plogger support forums.

1. Make sure the page extension is a php page (will not work in html)

2. Add the following code into the 1st line of of the page:

< ?php
require('gallery/gallery.php');
if ($GLOBALS['plogger_level']=='collections' || $GLOBALS['plogger_level']=='collection' ) {
$GLOBALS['plogger_level'] = 'album';
$GLOBALS['plogger_id'] = 9; // Enter the id# of the album here
}
plogger_init();
?>

3. Add the following code into your head tag:

< ?php the_gallery_head(); ?>

4. Add the following code where you you would like to album to display:

 < ?php the_gallery(); ?>

That`s it, your album should now show in your webpage, make sure you set the correct album id to show your specific album.

One last thing, due to the formatting of WordPress, when I was writing this tutorial make sure you remove the space in-between < ?  to <?

Feel free to comment or add refinements.

Server Maintenance (20th November)

We will be updating our servers operating system software late this evening which in turn will lead to all websites being offline for a short period of time. We estimate around 1 – 2 hours of downtime, but user data will be safe during this reinstallation. We have also taken precautions by taking an external backup of all the websites on the server.

User data will be kept intact and all hosting accounts have been backed up as a precaution to our offsite backup servers. We have also sent out an email to all our hosting clients to keep you informed.  Our website Sitebee will remain online during the upgrade process should you need to contact us.

Move over Google, DuckDuckGo is in Town

duck duck go logoAnyone heard of DuckDuckGo?  If not. DuckDuckGo is a search engine that`s giving the almighty Google a run for its money. Such a beautiful search engine!

Ive been having a play about with the new kid on the block recently and  I like what I find. Firstly it`s so simple, rather reminiscent of old skool Google before they got to big for their boots. The design is so simply attractive and very user friendly.

The search results are getting better too from when I last had a play around a few months back, although thinking about it I feel it`s algorithms still rely heavily on keyword suggestions rather than the quality of content.  There`s plenty of room for improvement.

Negative SEO

Negative SEO

Negative-SEOAs I read through various webmaster & seo forums im seeing mentions of Negative SEO much more frequently and now appears to becoming a common practice. For my blog readers I would like to touch on the basics.

So what is Negative SEO?

Well the simplest explanation is people trying to damage your website reputation, The most common way they can damage your online reputation is by creating bad links to your website (non-relevant and intermediate links). These links can number from 100`s or even into the thousands. Even worse they generally aim for websites that have already been issued a penalty to mount their negative seo campaign against the intended website passing bad link juice across. I know what your thinking “the f*****s” I agree.

What can I do to combat Negative SEO?

Unfortunately there’s not much you can do if have been targeted for a negative seo campaign, you can rest assured though it`s probably been sanctioned by one of your competitors. In most cases it`s generally one time,  your most probably not going to get those nasty links removed neither, but I would recommend you try anyway and document everything.

The tricky links can be the intermediate links (hta redirects, hidden links) your not going to find them in the page source code.  I recommend you contact all the websites that you have found those nasty links on and politely for those links to be removed. If you are unsuccessful in having the links removed, use the Disavow tools by Google and Bing webmasters.

Google Disavow Link Tool

I would like to talk about the Google Disavow Link Tool which was released back in October 2012! For those in the know will have already heard of the tool. But for those who have`nt yet the Disavow tool is for webmasters and SEO`s who would like to remove certain inbound links pointing to their website. For example non-relative links!

I have attached a video from Matt Cutts (Google Webspam Team) he explains how to use the Disavow tool.
