DoFollow Sitebee Links

I have setup a link building website for all sitebee visitors to add all their websites link and blog articles.
These are completely free, but you do have to register in order to post.

The website address is www.linkbee.co.uk

All I ask is that you do not post links to illegal website (illegal content) and adult websites.

————————————————————————————————————————————

What is DoFollow?

The term that doesn’t really exist :)

Understanding DoFollow
DoFollow is simply an internet slang term given to web pages or sites that are not utilizing “NoFollow.” NoFollow is a hyperlink value that tells search engines not to pass on any credibility or influence to an outbound link. Originally created to help the blogging community reduce the number of inserted links into a “comment” area of a blog page, the attribute is typically standard in blog comments. It helps overwhelmed webmasters disallow spammers from gaining any kind of advantage by inserting an unwanted link on a popular page.

How DoFollow & NoFollow Have Affected Link Building
As a result of the implementation of NoFollow, the process of building links has taken a steep turn. Many sites, including wikis, social bookmarking sites, corporate and private blogs, commenting plug-ins and many other venues and applets across the internet began implementing NoFollow. This made effective link building difficult for both honest people and spammers alike. It also made DoFollow links become the “Holy Grail” of SEOs everywhere, who seek them out as expensive collections to their off-site optimization repertoire.

NoFollow Isn’t Bad
There’s nothing wrong with getting NoFollow links. In fact, you’ll want to get an equal amount of them as well. While they don’t pass on link juice, they do help associate your site with anchor text (the keyword phrase that makes up the URL pointing to your site). They also increase the exposure of your site, overall, which may eventually lead to you getting more mentions via DoFollow links!

SEO Link Checking Tool

Today on one of the other websites that I own ive been doing some updates, they needed doing! :)

Anyway I purchased a great script for checking all kinds of SEO related information. the script is a all in one backlink checking tool which allows to view backlinks from the search engines and directories. (major ones)

For example you can check how many backlinks your website has from google, yahoo and bing. you can also see how many indexed pages your website has in the search engine. Even add a pagerank image on your website with a link to your website statistics page.

Heres a snapshot image for facebook using the seo stats tool

Some of the cool features the seo tool has:

W3C Validator

DMOZ listing

Internet Archive

Plus loads more.

If you want to try out the SEO Stats Tool for yourself you can find it via the link I just posted. If you want to know more about the script and where I purchased it from then please contact me.

Website Damage Limitation

Recently I have been asked to investigate the website damage limitation for PPI (Payment Protection Insurance) company who have had some bad online press recently through no fault of their own. In the cut throat insurance industry it now seems normal for rival companies to hire online bloggers etc to give negative reviews for a service they not received, which got me thinking on how widespread that practice now is.

So the big question is who can protect your online reputation?

Bad press, damage limitation, PR, crisis management, brand protection, call it what you like, the minute you put online in front of any of these phrases changes the requirements of a company who can help.  So who do you need to help mange your reputation on the net?

When you find you have negative content appearing in the search engines where do you go?   Sure negative comments can be a positive thing if you have had a serious issue and have shown to have dealt with it after listening to your customers.  More often than not however it can be an ex employer, competition or customer who has taken a particular disliking for the company and very difficult to show you have dealt with the complaint.

Online Reputation Management is about showing your company in the correct light and create understanding.  It is unlike advertising, whose main goal and focus is to generate sales and awareness.  Like PR, reputation management should be a planned exercise, with the goal of making the public, customers and suppliers see that the company understands the needs and wants of all parties involved.  You can’t do this if there is only negative content showing on the first page of the search engines.

Well I can proudly announce that sitebee will studying and finding as much information to website damage limitation and protecting your online reputation. Once I have found everything their is know I will publish my findings on the sitebee blog and maybe even offer web damage limitation packages as part of the all in one SEO package that we currently provide.

CSS3 Page Layout Generators

Here we have a list compiled of CSS3 Generators which can be used from generating full CSS layouts to setting up CSS3 gradients.

CSS3 generators will allow you to create virtually every CSS3 features such as gradients,  shadows, box radius, border shader, font-face, transitions, animations. Personally I try not to use CSS generators but sometimes you can save yourself a lot of time and head scrating with frustration.

CSS3 is becoming very popular now especially with implimentation of HTML5, I have created about a dozen HTML5 Themes myself and CSS3 has worked for me well in those themes.

There are around 116 new additions in CSS3  there are many free online tools which will help you create modern CSS3 code to cut and paste into your stylesheets…

CSS 3.0 MakerCSS 3.0 Maker screenshot

CSS 3.0 Maker is a fabulous tool. You can define box radii, gradients, text shadows, box shadows, transforms, transitions and rotations by adjusting a few sliders. A preview area shows the result and indicates which desktop and mobile browsers support the properties.

CSS code can be copied from the Codeview box and downloaded within an HTML file which demonstrates the effect.

LayerStyles.orgLayerStyles screenshot

Photoshop users will love LayerStyles. CSS3 effects are defined using a layer style dialog which will be immediately familiar to anyone using Adobe products. It’s easy, logical, and a joy to use.

Code can be copied from the dynamically-updated “CSS Code” viewer in the bottom-left of the screen.

CSS3 GeneratorCSS3 Generator screenshot

CSS3 Generator uses a wizard-like approach to define styles. Choose from a variety of effects including border radius, text shadow, box shadow, multiple columns, transforms and transitions. Then, complete a few boxes to apply them to the preview element.

CSS3 Generator highlights which browsers and versions support the effect and, where possible, provides IE-specific filter code.

westciv CSS3 Sandboxwestciv CSS3 Sandbox screenshot

The sandbox has been developed by CSS3 guru and SitePoint contributer John Allsopp. Gradients, text effects, box properties and transforms can be easily adjusted using sliders. The resulting code and preview window is dynamically updated accordingly.

The tool may not be as pretty as some of its competitors but it’s quick and functional. Recommended.

CSS3 PlaygroundCSS3 Playground screenshot

CSS3 Playground has been created by freelance developer Mike Plate. As well as supporting a range of CSS3 properties, it’s the only tool which allows you to preview effects on more than one element and change the content of the boxes. Amazing.

CSS3.meCSS3.me screenshot

If you want something simple, quick and easy, this CSS3 generator could be the tool for you. It’s one of the best-looking utilities and supports border radius, box shadow, opacity and simple background gradients. You can also request IE-specific filters in the resulting code.

CSS3 Button GeneratorCSS3 Button Generator screenshot

CSS3 effects can produce great-looking buttons without images. The CSS3 Button Generator allows you to tweak the font, padding, border, background gradient, inner shadow, drop shadow and text shadows using up/down controls which can be easier and more logical than sliders.

As well as providing cross-browser CSS3 code, the tool allows you to store and share styles with others. You can browse showcased buttons and adjust the properties for your own use.

CSS Tricks Button MakerCSS Tricks Button Maker screenshot

Button Maker was developed by Chris Coyier of CSS Tricks. Although it was intended as a technology demonstration, that hasn’t prevented it being useful to CSS3 developers!

Button Maker doesn’t support some of the more extreme CSS3 properties but it’s one of the only tools to show hover effects.

Ultimate CSS Gradient GeneratorUltimate CSS Gradient Generator screenshot

If pushed, even I can recall the text-shadow property. CSS3 gradients? No chance. Gradients may be powerful but they’re convoluted and, until recently, webkit browsers used a different syntax. Unless you’re creating a very simple background, a gradient generator is essential.

The Ultimate CSS Gradient Generator is, well, the ultimate gradient generator. It uses a similar interface to Photoshop and creates cross-browser code which includes IE filters. Finally, gradients can be saved and shared with a unique link. You’ll definitely want to bookmark this tool.

CSS3 Gradient GeneratorCSS3 Gradient Generator screenshot

If the Ultimate CSS Gradient Generator is too much effort, you might prefer this alternative. The tool allows you to create linear gradients by adding colors at any number of stop points. The old webkit syntax is produced as well as Mozilla code which should be compatible with other browsers.

Google SEO Tips for Beginners

Here we have published some great tips for website owners who want to start learning about the SEO process with Google.

The Google Honeymoon Ended

If you have a relatively new site which is only a few months old and you found that you were enjoying cushy rankings for much of that time until now, it’s most likely the result of the Google Honeymoon. This is the term for the phenomenon where a new site enjoys high rankings for a short period of time before falling to its more realistic ranking.

Google Sandbox Effect Started

The “Google Sandbox Effect” refers to the effect where new sites get dropped in the sandbox shortly after being created. You may enjoy those nice rankings due to the honeymoon or another phenomenon temporarily, but afterwards you are dropped in the sandbox which is like a punishment for new sites just for being new and unproven. In this case you should stick to low competition keywords, creating great content, and looking for high authority incoming links to prove your value to Google to get you out of the sandbox sooner than later.

Algorithm Updates/Link Juice Lost

Probably the most common reason your site disappeared is due to a change in the search engine’s algorithms. Search engines are constantly updating their algorithms which dictate where pages rank for keywords in the search engine results pages in order to keep things fresh and ensure that the best content is kept at the top. Even if your site isn’t being directly affected by an algorithm update, sites which you get a lot of your links from could be which can diminish the amount of link juice which you have overnight, so your ranking will likely drop with it.

Most recently the Google farmer update, also known as the Panda Update, slapped the influence which content farm sites (sites with huge amounts of sub par content with an emphasis on quantity over quality) had in the search engines, so content farms as well as the millions of websites receiving link juice from them were seriously affected practically overnight.

Malware

If your site is the victim of malware and Google detects malware on any of your pages, it will notify and warn any potential visitors in the SERPs who click on your page before they actually get to your site. Very few people will proceed after seeing such a warning (would you?), so this can account for a HUGE drop in traffic and can dissuade not just the casual internet user but other webmasters who would potentially link to you or even those who have already linked to you to break those links. This obviously can have an adverse effect not only on your traffic but your rankings in a relatively short period of time.

Server Issues

If Google cannot access your server because of issues with your host or on your end, this can cause a problem if left unfixed after a period of a few days. I use GoDaddy for my hosting and have never had an issue in 5 years, nice!

Robot.txt File Problems

Make sure you don’t have any bonehead mistakes in your robot.txt which may be prohibiting search engine crawlers from gaining access to certain pages of your site. If that happens all of a sudden, you can find your ranking drop, so make sure you’re only blocking the URLs you don’t want crawled with that file.

Penalization

Your site could have been penalized without your even realizing it if you broke Google’s rules. Steer clear of black hat SEO techniques to ensure that you are not penalized.

Broken Links

Broken links can cause serious problems, especially if it’s a prominent internal link on your site. It can be time consuming/impossible to check each of your links manually, so I use a free plugin with WordPress called Broken Link Checker which gives you a heads up as soon as it detects a broken link on one of its regular checks.

Duplicate Content

Search engines like Google hate duplicate content. This is especially true when it happens on the same site, but it can be an issue on different websites, as well. Not only does this irk Google, but when it finds duplicate content in two or more locations online, Google has to determine which is the true original content, and it may not always be your site that gets the credit, regardless of whether you put that content on your site first or not; so this can have adverse effects on your rankings in a couple of ways.

The Google Dance

The Google Dance refers to the phenomenon of pages randomly jumping around different spots in the SERPs, sometimes drastically. Of all these reasons, this one is the least able to be explained clearly and rationally. Typically, if the Google dance is the culprit for your rankings drop, the good news is that you’ll regain your higher rankings shortly. It’s just a random shuffling and fluctuation of listings which usually doesn’t last long.

White Hat Link Building

Importance of “do-follow” Links for Link Building

Not all backlinks are equal, most blog, forums and some directories attached a “no follow” tag to back links to your site. This is very important because this tells the search engine to ignore the value of this backlink when deciding upon the ranking of your site. No follow links were invented to prevent Spamers from attacking sites like Wikipedia and YouTube and filling them full of spam. Building links to these sites will add no value to your link building activities. On the other hand some site still offer “do follow” links, how can you tell the difference?

  1. All the large social networking sites Linked-In, Wikipedia, Flicker, Twitter are no-follow so these are a waste of time for link building. Although viral marketing via a promotional video may be another source of traffic.
  2. Some article sites offer do-follow links and you can find a list here http://dofollow.info/dofollow-article-directories/
  3. Most blogs comments are “no-follow” but if you offer to write a guest post then often bloggers will include a do-follow link at the bottom of the text.
  4. Some social bookmark sites offer do-follow links including Digg.
  5. Some directories offer do-follow links, but it’s worth checking first
