The internet is a great thing. However, it’s also a competitive landscape – with hundreds of millions of eyes to vie for, getting your work in-front of the widest audience possible is no longer a matter of simply uploading a new page of content and waiting for magic to happen. If you want your content to attract attention, then you have to work tremendously hard to make sure it acquires attention.

Write a compelling headline:

When it comes to copywriting, the headline is everything. Professional copywriters have been known to spend upwards of days on the title, simply because it plays such a large role in deciding whether or not their content gets read. Remember, your headline will appear as the title on your blog page and in the search engine results pages too – it’s vitally important to ensure that it stands out.

Be different, be unique.

There’s nothing worse than simply doing the same thing as everyone else – make a genuine effort to stand out. Spend time thinking about the central premise of your new literary masterpiece; make sure it’s well constructed with a beginning, middle and an end (conclusion). Try incorporating video content into your writing, and other forms of multimedia.

Post your content off-site.

If you are just starting out i.e. you have just uploaded a brand new website and you have next to no visibility online, then the best thing you can possibly do is start sourcing guest posting opportunities – build a list of other webmasters who are willing to submit your content on their blog.

Make sure, above all else, that you are ready to produce your best – you have high standards for your own blog, make sure you maintain those standards when posting on someone else’s site, too. The pitch is typically the hardest part and it’s why you need to be as creative as you possibly can be – really think about the central idea behind your piece and then pitch it to really high traffic websites.

Drive relevant traffic to your subscriber list.

This is singly one of the best marketing tips you will ever receive – if you are planning on creating guest posts for external websites i.e. posting your content on another webmaster’s site, then make sure you launch some form of promotion, too.

If you’re driving traffic to your own website from another webmaster’s site then ultimately you want them to do something – the best thing you can get them to do is subscribe to your e-mail list, that way you can continue to market to them (by helping them).

It’s no secret that Bitcoin comes with its fair share of controversy but what most people don’t realise is, it’s also shrouded in a veil of mystery. That’s because, even five years after its launch, nobody knows who came up with the original idea for the virtual currency system.

It’s an interesting story when you consider that even developers have no idea who created it. All that’s known about the person behind it is that he goes by the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. That is, until now. Computer visionary Ted Nelson believes he now knows who started Bitcoin – a math professor at Kyoto University named Shinichi Mochizuki.

Naturally, Nelson didn’t offer up a ton of evidence when he announced the discovery on YouTube. In trying to determine the person’s identity, Nelson said he asked himself what Sherlock Holmes would have done. He did say, however, that Mochizuki was a brilliant mathematician. What’s more, he has a history that seems to fit the behavior of Nakamoto.

Nelson also used the opportunity to praise Bitcoin. He noted that most people call it a virtual currency but in his opinion, it’s electronic gold. That’s because like gold, Bitcoin has no central authority and like gold, Bitcoin is brilliant, he said.

The secretive Nakamoto sent a letter to a developer in April 2011 indicating that he had moved on to other projects. A number of publications including the New Yorker attempted to uncover Nakamoto’s true identity that same year to no avail.

You will need to investigate what could have ruined your site’s trust with Google in the first place. You’ll have to look at your linking practices and see where it went wrong. Exact match anchor text links, for example, could get you in trouble if you paid for it or if you have too many of the same anchor text link. Comment spam on forums and blogs might also result in your site being penalised by Google Penguin.

Even seemingly legitimate tactics might have sent your rank out the window. For example, expert webmasters recommend guest posting on other sites as a way to create links and to improve visibility. Unfortunately, your site could have been affected because the site you posted on was affected by Penguin. Your site could have been marked as a co-conspirator, even if you thought the site was legitimate at the time. For that matter, links from questionable sites can also result in your site being tagged by Google Penguin.

Cleaning Up Spam Links To Your Site

You will need to to generate a backlink portfolio, many tools already exist to generate a full list of your backlinks, my personal favourite is AHREFS, theres also SEOMOZ`s Open Site Explorer and Majestic SEO.That`s the easy bit! The hard part comes when you have to look through the list. What you need to do now is to evaluate and relativity of each backlink to determine the quality of the site linking to you and probably will take a long time, especially if you have a backlink portfolio of thousands.

Now, the next step is to contact all of the websites you have deemed unsuitable and asked them to remove the links pointing to your website, as it is negatively affecting your ranking. Make it easy for them. Give them the URLs where the related links are, and to what part of your site it points. Be clear as to why you want the link removed. It may seem difficult to tell someone to remove a link because it is negatively affecting your site’s Google page-rank, but it’s what’s happening and you need to get your site back on track. A quick domain WHOIS search will solve your problems if you can’t find the contact information for that site.

Be warned most generic web directories have switched off contact forms and removed contact details from their websites, in the wake of Google Penguin, not surprising as their now probably receive more removal requests than submissions.

Generally you can expect one of the following responses to your request. They’ll remove the link, and inform you of the change. They may remove the link and simply not tell you. They could also simply ignore your request. At worst, they’ll only remove it if you pay them a certain amount of money. Just keep checking to see if anything has been removed and cross it off the list if it’s gone.

The last step is to inform Google of your efforts. Send them a spreadsheet filled with the information you just got, such as the removal of bad links and so forth. This will inform them that you’ve put in the effort to get your site back on their rankings. Don’t be disheartened if you couldn’t get rid of every single bad link – even the best site has a few spammers clinging to them. Google will recognize the change and act appropriately to remove the penalty.
